Norway – Hunting the Northern Lights in Tromsø

Tromsø → Mestervik → Sommarøy

Norway for me has been the first trip out of the ordinary, in the spirit of adventure and discovery!
Less comfort, but in exchange so much emotion.

After coming back from this experience, I was no longer the same person who was gone out, seeing natural scenarios like the Northern Lights or others wonders of the world.
I took the decision to dedicate myself to travel and to create the Instagram channel and the following the blog.

I would like to convey the enchanting beauty of this miracle that is called earth and I would be happy to convince, through my experiences and photos, more and more people to travel.
If you love the sensation of the wonder that pervades you, the chills for excitement, the tremors that almost do not stand you for the enthusiasm, You have to TRAVEL!

I often love to use a saying of Sant Agostino:
” The world is a great book, of which they that never stir from home read only a page.”

I recommend Norway as travel destination, especially for those who are like me, dreamers, romantics, people who love places with long silences and only the sound of the waves and winds, people who like to think, reflect, stay in peace and tranquility.
The scenery is really a fairy tale.

I traveled here in late December - early January.
In theory, the best time is from March, in fact, in winter time, the hours of light are only a few.
However, I was too determined to stay home.  After a short stop in Oslo, I took the plane to Tromsø.

I landed in Tromso and than I rent a car and moved to one of the most striking resorts, the Melangen Resort (Mestervik), situated in a fjord a few hours drive from the airport.
I spent here a few nights, but as a stopover I would recommend it to everyone;
Cottages are the typical, really fabulous, nordic ones, as fabulous is the whole location.
Later, I moved to Tromso city center to celebrate New Year’s Eve, here I took part in activities like whale watching and hunting the aurora borealis.

Travel Tips

I recommend everyone to experience the sled dog hike, I made it by booking directly at Melangen resort and I have to say that the day was really fun!
Another activity that I highly recommend is the borealis aurora hunting,
in this case my advice is not to book by the reception desk at the hotel;
unfortunately during our tour we camp in a place and we do not move much from there, but Aurora must be searched!
My recommendation is to book this activity directly at the tourist office in the center of Tromso, you will find equipped guides who will also travel by mini bus moving as quickly as possible and look for it, you will not be disappointed! You will be excited by looking at the northern light.

I also participated in whale watching, spending a whole day on the boat (it was really cool!) We finally saw it but I do not think this is the best time of year for this activity.
The temperatures were very stiff and I was not able to take photographs because I had frozen hands, there was low light, and we have really spotted them in the distance.
In a warmer period during the year it would probably have been much more rewarding.

I hope that my experience can be useful to you, let me know what you think, if you have any questions, you can write them down here and forgive me for the quality of the photos, I did my best in cold weather, low light availability and climatic conditions.

      Ciao Michele,
      sì nel periodo invernale le temperature sono basse, ma la natura incontaminata e i paesaggi sono davvero incredibili, ne vale la pena:)
